Officially, Esport Has Become An Outstanding Sports

JAKARTA – The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) and the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) officially recognize esports as an outstanding sport in Indonesia.

This recognition was obtained from the Central KONI 2020 National Working Meeting (Rakernas) virtually on August 25-27 2020. In the meeting, it was determined that esports was officially recognized as an achievement sport in Indonesia by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and KONI.

“Esports deserves to be a sport because it uses human power in the form of speed, agility, and strategy as in sports in general,” said PB ESI Daily Chairman Bambang Sunarwibowo.

This indicates that esports can be included as an official sport at national level competitions such as the National Sports Week (PON).

Bambang added that the feasibility of esports as an achievement sport is also based on the fact that esports has been contested both in national and international events, including at the 2018 Asian Games and 2019 SEA Games.

On the same occasion, the Secretary General of the Central KONI Ade Lukman expressed his hopes. “KONI fully supports the development of esports in Indonesia. Hopefully under the auspices of PB ESI, Indonesian athletes and esports teams can create achievements at the international level and make the nation proud,” said Ade Lukman.

Until now, several teams from Indonesia have also won world-class competitions, including EVOS Esports at the M1 World Championship, and Bigetron Esports which won the PUBG Mobile Club Open Fall Spit Global Finals 2019 competition.
